As part of the Stage 4 Architecture course at the Mackintosh School of Architecture I programmed and hosted the Urban Housing Forum which explored housing in its social, political and design contexts.
Held at the Maryhill Burgh Halls, the half-day symposium of talks and discussion featured a roster of incredible speakers. The inspiring line-up included:
Jude Barber - Architect, Director at Collective Architecture and co-instigator of initiatives such as Voices of Experience and the Empire Cafe
John Kinsley - Architect, Director at John Kinsley Architects
Frances Lingard and Joey Simmons - Glasgow Housing Struggle Archive
Adele Patrick - artist, feminist, and Co-Founder of the Glasgow Women’s Library and Raising the Roof
Andy Wightman - Land campaigner and former Member of the Scottish Parliament
The speakers explored housing in a range of contexts and at different scales including; housing as a statutory and political instrument; political and social struggle; tenure; self-build; feminist organising and womens’ co-housing; strategic planning.
The forum was attended by the Stage 4 Architecture students and staff.
