The Closing Lecture of the Architecture Fringe 2017 saw three internationally recognised guest speakers explore the state of play for architecture in a global context - Creator, Curator and Critic.

Sam Jacob of Sam Jacob Studio and the University of Illinois at Chicago presented a playful yet critically insightful 10 step programme for how to be a modern architect; Beatrice Galilee, Associate Curator of Architecture & Design at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York NY explored the presentation of architecture within a wider public discourse; and leading journalist, critic and former editor of the Architectural Review Catherine Slessor MBE lead us on an infernal tour of the nine circles of architectural publishing hell..  

Architecture occurs within a multiplicity of varying contexts, arrangements and expressions. It can be deployed for the greater good and harnessed for singular enrichment. It can be activated to induce joy and utilised to encourage fear. It can be programmed to provide the infrastructural genesis of further activity and applied as final conclusive decoration. 

The event was funded by Creative Scotland as part of the Architecture Fringe 2017 Core Programme, and produced in partnership with British Council Scotland and the Edinburgh School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture (ESALA) at the University of Edinburgh.
