Architecture Fringe 2017

Architecture Fringe 2017

01 - 23 July 2017
across Scotland with a core programme hub at Civic House

The second edition of the Architecture Fringe took place in July 2017 and was lightly structured the festival under the provocation theme of INFRA STRUCTURE where we sought to explore the contemporary state of play of architecture in Scotland and future potential future directions.

For the first time we received some public funding from Creative Scotland. This enabled the production of a core programme and the development of a central hub at Civic House in Glasgow. Exploring the INFRA STRUCTURE provocation we developed and commissioned a core programme. Projects included New Typologies, Taxi, Publishing House and a sell-out Closing Lecture featuring a Creator, Curator and Critic with Sam Jacob, Beatrice Galilee and Catherine Slessor.

The open programme continued to expand and, overall, the festival hosted 60 projects in 45 venues from 240 participants across Scotland. With a total audience of around 9,000 people work was now presented in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Inverness, New Lanark, Bowling and Beith. Projects included a summer school, pop-up cinema, interventions in Edinburgh’s Old Town and a ceilidh exploring bothy culture and the culture of land reform.
