RIAS Convention 2019
Architecture & Contemporary Culture

04 October 2019
Edinburgh International Conference Centre
150 Morrison Street, Edinburgh EH3 8EE

With Rūta Turčinavičiūtė

The RIAS Convention in 2019 was structured under the banner of ‘Climate of Opinion’, with speakers exploring various points of view within contemporary architecture. The Architecture Fringe was asked to contribute to the Convention programme, and we chose to present and showcase the plural, beautiful mosaic of grassroots contemporary architectural cultures in Scotland.

A review of the Convention published in the RIAS Quarterly written by Mark Chalmers noted that:

‘Andy Summers and Rūta Turčinavičiūtė from the Architecture Fringe presented one of the afternoon’s breakout sessions, laying out what AF have achieved so far, using what they described as creative activism, campaigning and provocation around political and social topics. The Q&A session afterwards was the most lively at this year’s Convention and proves there’s an appetite for debate once the audience’s ice has broken.’
